Web Design II

By this stage students have the capability to create a full, handicap accessible, professional looking web site. Responsive design is introduced and all work can be displayed equally well on differing devices using media queries. Students have the option in this class to expand the website built in Web Design One to a full 8 page, or to create a brand new 5 page site from scratch. In either case, students continue to add to the professional portfolio.

JavaScript I

JavaScript has become the fastest growing, most widespread language in use today. In this class, students will learn basic programming fundamentals as well as techniques to manipulate the visual aspects of the web browser. By class completion students will enhance a website with JavaScript to make it more user friendly (UX). Additionally, students will create a small application (app) that runs on both web and mobile.

Image Manipulation II

This class will explore image manipulation further by using Inkscape, a free open source drawing program, to create and manipulate vector graphic files. Inkscape performs a similar function to Adobe Illustrator.

Web Design III

In the third and final class on web design, students will continue to expand on the techniques from earlier classes, but Bootstrap will be introduced as an industry standard time saving framework. The final artifact for this class will be a real client based project. Students will find a client within their network, and build a site to their specifications in order to simulate a real world experience.

JavaScript II

In part II of the JavaScript series of courses, students will go deeper into programming concepts with the JavaScript language. Frameworks such as jQuery, Angular and React will be introduced. The final outcome for this class is a web/mobile app with multiple features. Studens will work using the Agile/Scrum workflow model.

Server Side Scripting with PHP

This course focuses on server side programming with PHP. Students will become familiar with web servers such as Apache and NGINX, database design and programming, and server side app development. The final outcome will be a dynamic application such as a message board or blog. Ambitious students might tackle creating a simple social network.

Portofolio

Portofolio is a chance for students to house all their work under one online umbrella such that employers can easily assess skill level. The portofolio should contain a combination of 5 websites and apps. Additionally, graphic work from the image classes should be included here. Students will also create a finished resume to add to the portfolio. At this level, students should also begin seeking internships.
